The short answer
- This guide uses vendor documentation checked November 5, 2026. We have not built, published or transferred a site in the product.
- Framer separates site limits from paid editors and locale add-ons. Calculate the cost of content editors and languages alongside the site plan.
- Framer’s portability guide and HTML export guide disagree about downloadable site output. Verify the exact workflow before relying on self-hosting.
Count content, traffic and editors
Framer’s pricing table lists Basic with 30 site pages, two CMS collections, 1,000 CMS items and 50 GB of monthly bandwidth. Pro lists 150 pages, ten collections, 2,500 items and 100 GB, with add-ons for higher limits. Confirm the selected billing cycle and overage treatment.
Framer lists additional design editors and content editors separately and says viewers are free. Its site plans and collaboration costs should be modeled with the people who will maintain and publish the site, not just the original designer.
Plan translations and review
Framer says the Localization add-on provides locale workflows and AI translations use plan credits; manual translations do not require those credits. Budget the locales, shared credits and human review, including slugs, metadata and content updates.
Build a representative collection and localized page in a trial. Check how an editor updates content and whether the site’s form, analytics and CRM integrations accept the intended fields.
Transfer the project deliberately
Framer says the site and custom domains remain online during transfer. On acceptance, the original Site subscription is canceled, unused time is credited to the sender, and the recipient chooses and pays for any required plan. Agree on billing, DNS and post-transfer access.
Framer describes workspace and project roles as well as design, content and deploy permissions on supported plans. Test the client’s ability to update content and publish with the quoted plan and assigned role.
Framer’s illustrated publishing guide shows the publishing controls and describes staging on eligible plans.
Resolve conflicting export documentation
Framer’s portability guide says site output can be downloaded and hosted elsewhere and that CMS data can be exported through plugins. Its self-hosting guide says Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting. Both were updated on the same date; the disagreement remains unresolved.
Ask Framer to demonstrate the exact download, licensing and hosting workflow for your project. Test a CMS plugin export, asset links, locales, forms and redirects before accepting an exit plan; verify which permissions and services the recipient needs.
How to compare the alternatives
Compare Webflow and Duda using the same pages, CMS data and client handoff. The Webflow vs Framer comparison examines site plans and portability. See Unbounce and Instapage for campaign landing pages.
Common questions
Can I export and self-host a Framer site?
Framer’s portability guide says site output can be downloaded; its HTML export guide says export for self-hosting is unavailable. Confirm your exact workflow.
Does a client need to accept a project transfer?
Framer says the recipient accepts the transfer and activates a Site plan if paid features are used.
