The short answer
- Semrush is worth considering when a team wants SEO research and monitoring alongside optional specialist marketing toolkits. Buy against the tasks and users you need, not a list of tool names.
- Current plans distinguish SEO, Starter and Pro+; the separate AI toolkit and older SEO Toolkit documentation have different entitlements.
Map the purchase before comparing prices
The current pricing page displays SEO at $139 per month, Starter at $199 and Pro+ at $299 on monthly billing; annual equivalents are lower with an annual commitment. These are the displayed US-dollar prices, not a quote for every region, tax or account. Older SEO Toolkit documentation uses Pro, Guru and Business and different prices. Ask which offer applies instead of mixing the two tables.
The plan guide describes the specialist Traffic & Market, Local, Content, Social and other toolkits separately. A base SEO subscription is not evidence that a particular specialist toolkit, export or API is included.
Count websites, tracked targets and users
The current SEO plan lists five websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Starter retains those limits and adds a defined AI entitlement; Pro+ lists 15 websites and 1,500 daily tracked keywords, historical SEO data and multi-location/device tracking. Confirm crawl, report and export allowances on the actual subscription.
Semrush explains that keywords assigned to another location, device or other target count again toward the account tracking limit. The article uses older Guru and Business labels, so confirm current plan eligibility and counting with the vendor. For 250 phrases in two targets, allow 500 tracked combinations before adding another project or target.
Semrush’s pricing page lists additional users starting at $45 per month. Its user-management guide lists Semrush One Starter at $45 and Pro+ at $80 per additional user, with separate AI Visibility Toolkit access for additional users. Account limits are shared by default and view-only project sharing is free. Confirm the precise offer, toolkit entitlements and billing for your team.
Keep the datasets distinct
Semrush explains that Domain Analytics estimates search traffic from keyword positions, search volume and average click-through rates. Traffic Analytics uses a different methodology. Neither estimate is the same as a connected property’s own measured analytics. Note the country, device, date, coverage and source before comparing reports.
Authority Score is Semrush’s proprietary compound measure. Use it as a screening signal and inspect the actual links or pages; it is not a Google-issued score or a guarantee of future ranking. Review an audit issue on the real site, decide whether it matters, then monitor after a deliberate change; the recommendation alone does not establish causation.
Scope AI reports explicitly
Semrush’s plan guide says SEO has limited AI features but no dedicated prompt-tracking quota, while Starter lists 50 prompts tracked daily, one domain for AI brand performance and 300 AI visibility reports a day. Pro+ lists 100 daily prompts. The pricing display also shows “monitor custom prompts” under SEO; because this conflicts with the plan guide, confirm access and quota at checkout.
The AI-only Base pricing page displays $99 per month per domain billed annually, with 25 tracked custom prompts; the toolkit guide lists its own limits. Confirm the included engines, domain, prompt sample, refresh and additional-user access for your chosen offer. Mention frequency across selected prompts is not a measure of all user searches or proof of revenue.
Try the same work and plan the exit
Test an authorized site, a known query set and a competitor: inspect a technical issue, export rows and invite a collaborator with the intended role. Ask about report ownership, API access, history retention and what survives cancellation before making a client migration plan.
Compare Ahrefs and SE Ranking on the same data needs; the Ahrefs comparison models a shared workload.
Common questions
Does the SEO plan include full AI visibility?
Semrush’s plan guide says no dedicated prompt-tracking quota or per-domain AI brand performance on SEO. Its pricing display conflicts on custom prompts, so confirm the offer.
Are all collaborators included?
Semrush describes paid additional seats and separate access for some toolkits; view-only project sharing is free.
Is estimated domain traffic a measured visit count?
No. Semrush describes modeled estimates using different methods for Domain and Traffic Analytics.
