The short answer
- FirstPromoter suits a subscription business that needs to manage partner commissions and can reconcile its existing ledger.
- FirstPromoter Starter costs $49 monthly or $490 annually, with up to $5,000 monthly affiliate revenue and 1,000 affiliates.
- Managed payouts have business and plan requirements; activity logs require a higher plan.
- Compare Rewardful for a larger entry revenue allowance or Tolt for per-flow approval settings.
Price the program you expect
Forecast affiliate revenue and the number of affiliates before choosing a plan. Affiliate revenue means revenue attributed to affiliates; commissions owed are a separate expense.
FirstPromoter pricing lists Starter at $49 monthly or $490 annually, with up to $5,000 monthly affiliate revenue and 1,000 affiliates. Price the expected workload, including the payout method and any plan needed for controls.
FirstPromoter lists Stripe and Paddle among its billing providers. Bring the provider and account configuration to the quote so the implementation matches your billing system.
Plan when partners receive money
Set expectations using the payout schedule and the minimum balance. A refund can change the amount owed after a sale.
FirstPromoter payout guidance says refunds generate negative commissions that reduce a promoter’s payout. Its default NET-30 means payment thirty days after month end; a minimum payout threshold can postpone payment.
For example, a partner below the configured minimum may wait beyond the scheduled date. Record that threshold in the partner terms and review the effect of refunds on the balance.
Check managed payout eligibility
Managed payouts need a separate eligibility decision before they can become your operating plan. The entry subscription alone does not answer that question.
FirstPromoter managed payouts require Enterprise 2 or above, SaaS status, US registration and US-bank invoicing and payment, subject to review and excluded-business rules. Its Wise suggestion for customers without a US bank account does not show that non-US businesses qualify.
FirstPromoter says setup replaces promoters’ configured payout methods with Dots and requires the partner agreement. Transfers can take seven to ten days after invoice payment is received, with partner withdrawal fees. Get an eligibility decision for your business before promising a schedule.
Protect the commission ledger
Reconcile paid and unpaid commissions before importing old sales. A customer-level import can create an entry for commissions already paid.
FirstPromoter’s referral import instructions say that importing Stripe events after creating a referral brings in past customer sales and generates corresponding commissions. The referral UID must be the Stripe customer ID. Compare generated entries with the old payment ledger before enabling payouts.
FirstPromoter’s changelog describes an optional setting that sends commission earnings to the promotion used on an order while customer and revenue attribution stays with the original promoter. It is disabled by default. Keep reporting ownership and commission ownership in your reconciliation.
Choose the audit trail
Budget for the controls your team needs to investigate a change. A record of who changed a referral can matter when a partner disputes a balance.
FirstPromoter activity logs require Enterprise Plan 3 or above and enablement. Access depends on Super Admin or custom-role permissions. The logs cover referral reassignment and payout actions. They also record exports and show old and new values.
Run synthetic paid and unpaid entries through the proposed cutover. Compare the expected balance with the imported entries and assign an owner to resolve discrepancies before a live payout.
How to compare the alternatives
Compare Rewardful when the entry revenue allowance is the deciding constraint. Rewardful Starter permits $7,500 monthly affiliate-attributed revenue and lists unlimited affiliates; its managed payout processing fee is separate.
Consider Tolt when approval timing by flow is central. Tolt’s approval settings support immediate, delayed or manual approval, with changes applying to new commissions.
The Rewardful alternatives comparison compares the payout workflows. Use the buying guide to test the same ledger across candidates.
