The short answer
- Brevo Free lists 300 daily email sends, storage for 100,000 contacts and automation for up to 2,000 contacts. Unused daily sends do not roll over.
- Paid Starter and Standard tiers pair monthly sends with contact storage limits; a low starting price is not a quote for every audience size.
- Marketing and transactional exclusions can differ. Preserve the relevant blocklists when changing tools.
Forecast three different quantities
Brevo’s plan guide lists Free at 300 daily sends and up to 100,000 stored contacts. Starter and Standard pair send volumes with storage: for example, the 5,000 monthly-send tier lists up to 500 contacts, and the 10,000 tier up to 1,500. Higher tiers have different limits. Confirm the current price and tier for your country and billing period. The US monthly view checked November 5 showed Starter from $9 per month for the first tier, before taxes; pricing varies by tier, add-ons and billing. Confirm your checkout total.
Estimate peak stored contacts, campaign and transactional volume, and the unique contacts entering automations. A large list does not automatically fit every paid tier. Check daily limits, overages, unused allowance and the cost of additional channels before choosing.
Prepaid credits are another option: one credit is one email sent to one contact, and the documented 2,000-contact automation limit still applies. Compare their current price and terms against a subscription.
Map the journey and its population
Brevo lists multi-channel marketing automation for up to 2,000 contacts on Free. Its add-on guide applies the same cap to prepaid credits. Check the current plan page and account terms for the exact automation limit and how unique contacts are counted.
Draw a welcome or purchase journey with its trigger, delay and exit. Before activation, compare the people who should enter with the planned audience and verify how re-entry works. Ensure someone owns each workflow and its messages.
Keep marketing permission distinct
Brevo distinguishes transactional messages, such as order confirmations and password resets, from marketing campaigns; its transactional platform supports API or SMTP sending. Prepaid credits can cover both marketing and transactional emails. On paid plans Brevo says plan emails are used first and prepaid credits are a backup; on Free, buying prepaid credits replaces the daily free allowance. Forecast critical messages as well as campaigns and confirm the account’s sending setup.
Brevo’s glossary defines blocklists by channel and separately describes transactional sender blocks. A marketing block does not by itself describe every transactional exclusion. Export and map each relevant status and sender restriction when migrating.
Brevo’s classic-editor external-form double opt-in example, which it labels deprecated, uses a transactional confirmation and marketing blocklisting for people who do not confirm. Record the source and status of consent; do not infer marketing permission from a transactional relationship. Verify the exact configuration with authorized sample records.
Compare the alternatives
Consider Mailchimp when its audience-based plans and flow limits fit; consider ActiveCampaign when the workflow and list associations are the central decision. Quote the same contact count and message volumes, including transactional messages.
Common questions
Does Brevo charge only for sends?
Its current plan tiers pair monthly send allowances with contact storage limits. Check both dimensions for the chosen tier.
How many emails are on Free?
Brevo lists 300 per day; unused daily sends do not carry over.
Does a marketing block mean all transactional email is blocked?
Not necessarily. Brevo describes channel-specific blocklists and sender-specific transactional blocks. Check each status and the actual sending configuration.
