## The short answer

- Storylane is worth testing when a guided product tour fits the buyer’s journey.
- Storylane Free lists one published screenshot or video demo and one seat; Starter lists unlimited published demos in those formats.
- Price the format and seats your team will keep, then test how copied screens are maintained.
- Compare Navattic for HTML on Starter and Supademo for its documented downgrade behavior.

## Choose the experience

Start with what the visitor must do and what your team needs to change. A guided route can demonstrate a fixed workflow; a prospect who needs to explore may need a different experience.

[Storylane’s best practices](https://docs.storylane.io/best-practices) recommend screenshots when on-screen content needs no editing and HTML when it does. Decide which labels or customer details need to change before recording.

For example, a sales team may show a fixed reporting screen to every prospect. A screenshot route can serve that job. If the team needs to replace account names on the screen, test the HTML edit on that same fixture.

Write the intended audience and the action a viewer should take afterward. Storylane’s guidance also asks creators to consider where to place a gate. Those decisions give the trial a concrete task rather than a generic tour.

## Price the plan you will keep

Count the editors and choose the format before comparing the advertised plan. Unlimited views and unlimited published demos answer different questions from editor access.

[Storylane pricing](https://www.storylane.io/plans) lists Free with one seat and one published screenshot or video demo, with unlimited views. Starter lists unlimited published screenshot or video demos at $50 monthly in the displayed monthly view.

Storylane lists additional Starter seats at $40 each in that monthly view. Record the number of people who need to edit and the billing cadence beside the plan. The Starter description alone does not answer the cost of the HTML workflow you may need.

Give the intended owner a representative task on the plan you expect to retain. A temporary trial entitlement can make an unsuitable continuing plan look adequate. Record what remains available when that trial ends.

## Test reuse after a redesign

Measure the work of updating a library, not just the first capture. A reusable screen is valuable only if the team can keep every published path current.

[Storylane’s management guide](https://docs.storylane.io/account/managing-demos) describes copying screens and sharing or moving demos between teams. Its guidance limits screen copying to matching demo formats.

Create several demos from the same screen, then rename a field in your fixture. Time the repair and inspect every published destination. Copying a screen does not tell you whether later changes propagate to its copies.

Assign the repair to the person who will own the library. Open the updated demo on a small screen and follow the visitor’s route to the intended action. Keep the old link available for comparison while reviewing the change.

## Choose an exit artifact

Decide whether the next workflow needs a recording, a document or an interactive project. Each artifact serves a different purpose.

[Storylane’s export guide](https://docs.storylane.io/sharing-demos/exports-and-downloads) lists GIF and MP4 exports and document formats including PDF, Word and Markdown. GIF and video exports lose interactivity. Storylane’s offline conference route does not capture analytics.

A video may be enough for a presentation, while a hosted interactive tour needs a working path for the viewer. Open an export outside the account and compare it with the experience you need to preserve. The listed exports do not prove that an editable project can be self-hosted.

Inventory the demos embedded in your site before changing tools. Record the owner and destination for each one, then test a replacement on a private page. Keep lead-event records separate from the visual artifact.

## How to compare the alternatives

Compare the required format and the exit outcome before changing products. Use the same fixture so that the repair work is visible in both trials.

[Navattic pricing](https://www.navattic.com/pricing) lists one HTML or media demo on Starter; that is worth considering when editable HTML is required at the starting tier. Base lists five seats and unlimited HTML demos.

[Supademo’s FAQ](https://docs.supademo.com/welcome/faqs) says existing demos remain published and editable with free features after downgrade, while premium features revert. Consider it when retaining a basic published demo after a downgrade matters. Test the resulting address and appearance.

The [Navattic alternatives comparison](https://quillwell.com/guides/compare/navattic-alternatives/) puts the documented options side by side. The [interactive demo buying guide](https://quillwell.com/guides/interactive-demo-software/) provides a redesign and exit worksheet for the same fixture.
