## The short answer

- Chameleon can suit a team seeking targeted in-app experiences, including tours, tooltips and surveys, alongside an existing analysis workflow. It also offers experience analytics; check whether those reports answer your product questions.
- Price identified users from all connected sources and include the people who need to publish. The [role matrix](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/3698941-how-can-i-manage-my-team-s-roles-and-permissions) makes granular teammate roles an Enterprise decision.
- Treat targeting and maintenance as an ongoing job shared by a product owner and a developer.

## Count the people sent to Chameleon

[Chameleon’s MTU definition](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/1622905-how-are-end-users-tracked-and-defined) counts unique user IDs identified in the previous 30 days, including users sent by integrations even if they never visit the app or see an experience. The maximum count in the billing period determines usage. Chameleon says accounts created before March 28, 2021 use its separate MAU definition; confirm the billing model for your account.

That distinction matters if a server-side integration sends your full customer list. Map each data source and test a sample before forecasting usage; a count of tour viewers alone is too small.

[The Pro plan documentation](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/15203467-chameleon-pro-plan) lists a starting price of $750 per month and up to 20 live Experiences. The [plan table](https://www.chameleon.io/plans) lists monthly Pro billing and annual Growth and Enterprise billing. Ask for the rate and allowance at your actual MTU level; public pages and historical offers can differ.

[Overage guidance](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/6176646-what-happens-if-i-go-over-the-mtus-limit-of-my-account) says Pro moves through graduated tiers, while Growth and Enterprise overages appear on a subsequent invoice. Confirm your contract’s calculation and notification terms.

## Match the format to the moment

[Chameleon lists](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/2403321-chameleon-pricing-plans) tours, tooltips, embeddables, microsurveys and launchers, as well as themes and custom CSS. A launcher can provide recurring help; a targeted tour can prompt a particular onboarding step. Inventory both before sizing the live-experience allowance.

For a first-project journey, define the event and user attributes that distinguish a new account from an existing one. Verify when they arrive from your application or integration before relying on a segment.

## Assign authority before release

[The plan table](https://www.chameleon.io/plans) lists 10 Pro seats, 15 Growth seats and unlimited Enterprise seats, with viewers unlimited. It lists Admin and Viewer roles for Pro and Growth and all roles for Enterprise.

[Role documentation](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/3698941-how-can-i-manage-my-team-s-roles-and-permissions) says Admins can configure and publish, while Enterprise teammate roles include separate Creator and Publisher permissions. If one person should draft and another approve, confirm that separation in the actual plan.

[Environment guidance](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/1318033-how-do-i-manage-my-domains-and-subdomains) says an experience defaults to all installed domains, which differs from all configured environments. Check the domain and audience before publishing, and retest after changing the app interface.

## Measure and maintain the journey

Record eligible users, exposure, guide completion and the downstream product action as separate measures. A rise after launch can have other causes; agree in advance how to compare cohorts and verify the plan’s experimentation access.

Chameleon’s [plan table](https://www.chameleon.io/plans) lists Goals on Pro, while its [Goals documentation](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/1988127-using-conversion-goals) says Growth and Enterprise. Confirm the entitlement in your quote and trial before depending on it.

Test one experience on a staging domain with a synthetic user, then change the target element and repeat. Ask an engineer to inspect identifiers and event timing if the expected user does not qualify.

Before switching, request a sample user or event export and preserve experience text, targeting and ownership separately. An export does not establish that another product can import the experience.

## When to consider another approach

[Pendo](https://quillwell.com/guides/software/pendo/) may fit a broader analytics-and-guides purchase. [Appcues](https://quillwell.com/guides/software/appcues/) and [Userpilot](https://quillwell.com/guides/software/userpilot/) provide other paths to targeted onboarding; evaluate the same audience and runtime in each trial.

## Common questions

### Are MTUs only people who see a tour?

No. [Chameleon](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/1622905-how-are-end-users-tracked-and-defined) includes identified users from other sources, including integrations, within the rolling window.

### Can a creator and publisher have separate roles?

[Chameleon](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/3698941-how-can-i-manage-my-team-s-roles-and-permissions) lists teammate roles including Creator and Publisher on Enterprise. Confirm the permissions offered in your contract.

### Is there a public starting price?

The [Pro plan documentation](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/15203467-chameleon-pro-plan) states $750 per month as a starting point; request the current tier for your usage.
