## The short answer

- Pendo combines product analytics and guides, so the right alternative depends on which work must continue after a switch. No single replacement is established for every Pendo module.
- Evaluate Userpilot for its documented analysis and engagement scope, Chameleon for in-app experience authoring, Appcues for targeted onboarding, and UserGuiding for guidance where its quota rule matters.
- Compare equivalent quotes and reproduce a representative journey before retiring a working setup.

## Choose the work to replace

List the reports, feedback, guide journeys and mobile surfaces you actually use. Mark the ones that must remain available at cutover. Do not assume an onboarding tool replaces every analytics or replay workflow.

[Pendo Free](https://www.pendo.io/pricing/) includes analytics and guides up to 500 MAUs; paid modules require a quote. Existing data quality and integrated workflows may justify staying if the new quote is acceptable.

## Compare the candidates

These are conditional starting points, not a ranking. Request exact plan entitlements and run the same task in each product.

Documented scope and questions for a representative quote

| Candidate | Useful scope | Boundary to price or test |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Userpilot | In-app engagement and usage trends on Starter | Native mobile requires an annual add-on on Growth or Enterprise |
| Chameleon | Tours, tooltips, surveys and launchers | Tracked users include identified integration profiles; roles vary by plan |
| Appcues | Targeted in-app experiences | Live and scheduled experiences consume the published allowance |
| UserGuiding | In-product guidance | Its pricing says guides stop over quota until capacity increases or usage falls |

Userpilot lists [usage trends and in-app engagement](https://userpilot.com/pricing/); its [mobile documentation](https://docs.userpilot.com/in-app-engagement/mobile-content/get-started-with-mobile-content) requires an annual add-on on Growth or Enterprise. Check whether the reports and native formats needed for your own stack are included.

[Chameleon](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/2403321-chameleon-pricing-plans) offers experience analytics as well as authoring. Test whether that is sufficient for your analysis rather than assuming either a full suite replacement or no analytics.

[Appcues](https://docs.appcues.com/account-subscription/managing-your-subscription) counts both scheduled and live experiences toward the published allowance. [UserGuiding](https://userguiding.com/pricing) documents a guide interruption above quota. Neither fact alone makes a product cheaper or better for your launch.

## Price the same workload

For an illustrative request, specify a web app with 5,000 active users, two products or environments and three authors. This is a quote scenario, not a claim that any plan includes those allowances. Add mobile, replay, feedback, data export and retention only if needed.

Ask how identity and anonymous traffic affect the bill. Pendo uses [Visitor IDs](https://support.pendo.io/hc/en-us/articles/6837988357659-Monthly-active-users-MAU), while Chameleon counts [identified profiles](https://help.chameleon.io/en/articles/1622905-how-are-end-users-tracked-and-defined), including those sent by integrations. Similar audience labels can produce different quantities. [Userpilot’s glossary](https://docs.userpilot.com/reference/glossary) uses a calendar month for identified users, so the periods themselves also differ.

## Protect the definitions, not just the data

Save the ID map, event taxonomy, report definitions, guide content, audience rules and the person responsible for each journey. Data files do not automatically recreate interactive experiences.

[Userpilot’s import API](https://docs.userpilot.com/api-references/import/overview) describes importing historical user, company and event data; verify format, access and reconciliation before assuming a complete history will transfer. Its [bulk export API](https://docs.userpilot.com/api-references/export/overview) requires Enterprise or a Growth add-on.

Trial a single representative journey with synthetic users and controlled delivery. Agree how to prevent overlapping guides before running multiple SDKs, and retain the original until the replacement meets the acceptance criteria.

## When staying can be sensible

Keep Pendo on the shortlist when its existing data, guide workflow and quoted modules support the job. Compare the future cost of recreating working reports and experiences with the expected benefit of moving.

If only one part needs changing, check integration and export access before assuming that replacing the whole suite is necessary.

## Common questions

### Does Pendo have a free plan?

[Pendo Free](https://www.pendo.io/pricing/) lists product analytics and in-app guides for up to 500 MAUs.

### Can an alternative import all Pendo guides?

The cited import documentation covers data, not portable Pendo guide definitions. Test a representative rebuild.

### Does Userpilot support native mobile?

Yes. Its [documentation](https://docs.userpilot.com/in-app-engagement/mobile-content/get-started-with-mobile-content) describes an annual mobile add-on on Growth or Enterprise.
